We popped into Shanghai Street on Little Bourke for a quick bite and were really impressed, everything arrived hot, fresh, and fast. Our server’s name escaped me, but she was incredibly friendly and warm despite being absolutely run off her feet. The standout dish was the Signature Shanghai Pan Fried Mini Pork Bun, unbelievably flavoursome and worth the visit alone.

Not what it was used to be, freshness down and MSG up, competitively price for something to have before and after work drinks. We ordered the wonton chicken and prawn in soup, pork dumplings in chilli oil and boiled veggie dumplings. Their condiments are great as well!

The meal is tasty and full of flavor, especially the mapo tofu rice! The price is super reasonable due to the huge quantity. But the flavor of fried rice w bacon and fried dumplings is on average, not rec. The skin of the fried dumpling is thick so that almost absorbs the soup inside, making it less juicy.

Our meals were tasty, fresh and full of flavour. The boiled dumplings were our favourite together with the tofu dish. Great atmosphere for casual dining.

Stopped by here for dinner as we passed it by chance while looking to do takeaway meat. The spicy XO clams was super yum without a grain of sand! The fried fritter dough that came with it was excellent! Crispy on the outside and soft inside. The chicken corn soup was also a nice change from the ramen soup and pho. Ordered the steamed xiao long bao and pan fried meat bun. Both were good but those who are hard core fans of ding tai Feng for the soft thin skins may not like it as the skin is much thicker. Though junior actually prefers it as he likes eating meat with skin for more filling experience. The fried chicken was also quite good. Didn’t get to sample more dishes since it was only intended as quick stop but would definitely return to try the rest of dishes if I have the time! Service is very polite and on point. Speaking mandarin helps to get one’s request across quicker and more accurately. (Such as discussing on when best to start cooking the fried chicken to take away to ensure the crispy skin stays the freshest on route back)
