I’d been to Penang Road so many times over many many years, and each time the food was good and service was quick. My all time favourites were their nasi lemak with fried chicken ribs and their hainanese chicken rice. Some dishes were not as good; the beef rendang and the curry chicken that came with the roti canai, for example, seemed to be always dry, so nothing to dip the roti into. But overall, a great casual dining/takeaway option and the food was always of good value.

This restaurant in South Melbourne is like a home to us, with all their staff including the kitchen crew mingling with us like a family. They’d even ask us the reason why we’ve been too busy for few weeks but not visiting them. This truly means the world to us who support them & their dishes wholeheartedly. And yes, we love all their Malaysian dishes as always.

Family Friendly

Portion was generous, in fact too huge for an Asian stomach. For such taste in ang moh place, this is a good deal. However, if I were to benchmark vs. Penang/Malaysia gastronomical standard, it's slightly below. Char keu tew lacked of "wok hei", prawn noodle and white curry laksa somehow the taste not fully absorbed, though soup is OK, likely because of the mihun and mee (noodle) used are different. Today's day 2 lockdown lifted in Melbourne, rules aren't strict here for dine in (need not show Vax cert) which can be a deterrent to risk averse ppl. Perhaps best to take away. Staff service is good, overall it's still worth trying, very close to home if you miss Malaysian food.

I came with no expectations and was blown away. Quaint little place with a nice relaxing feel. The staff were friendly, spoke great english and eager to serve. The food was amazing. I couldn't get over the serving size. I ordered Chicken and Corn Soup, and Chicken Singapore Noodles (without prawns). Both were full of flavour, soup super hot, and they didn't hold back on ingredients. My noodles photo probably doesn't look like it, but there was heaps of chicken (hiding underneath the pile of noodles). Noodle serving is enough to feed 2. I would definitely recommend this place. Great value for money, comfortable and yummy.

Cheap tasty Malaysian restaurant. Fast friendly service. Update 09/18: the curry laksa isn't too bad. It's creamy and quite generally portioned. Customer service had also improved since 2016. Bumping back up to 4 stars Update 09/16: this place seems to have changed management. The staff are a bit of hit and miss. Some are friendly and some seems to be hating life. Foodwise the quality is still there so its such a shame to see the service level drop a little. Also this place is cash only.
