Cute little spot in Kallista. Always great for a coffee and scones. Not super big so not great for a big group. Parking is also tricky so keep in mind if you struggle with hills and stairs (or just get dropped off)
Love supporting local, however feel the quality of food was basic. Go for the coffee and scones! Staff were lovely and very polite.

Kallista Tea Rooms is a win.
Bright space. Natural light. Easy vibe. Veggie stack, scones, Portuguese chicken, salt and pepper calamari. Big portions. No wait. Friendly service. Ample parking. Outdoor seating. Organic lemon lime bitters and solid Yarra Valley wines.
Simple. Done right.

Went back and disappointed to know they changed their menu, the amazing pancakes were replaced by pancakes using different toppings but not as good.
I was impressed with this place. I have passed this place many times and finally got to try it. Inside is old but feels nice with so many trees and greens around it. Parking can be better as some areas were very muddy, also not very accessible for prams or wheelchair, have to go up the street for that. Staff could be a bit friendlier but owner is very friendly. Tried their pancake which was the best pancake I ever had in my life. Very fluffy and tasted amazing. The poached pear was amazing and the crunchy sugar thing was sooo good. The pancake is like something between normal pancake texture and souffle. Unfortunately I have to take one star off because their scones are rather dry and dense, with not enough cream to make it enjoyable. For a tea house, I would expect scones to be nice. Lindt hot chocolate was big serving, but hard to mix with the chocolate at the bottom. Will come back for the pancakes!!

Had an early lunch here before heading to Puffing Billy.
The ricotta pancake was absolutely delicious. The portion was huge but did not feel sickening because the raspberry compote and lemon curd kept it refreshing. The lamb ragu was just average, not enough tomato flavour and slightly gamey. The chicken was decent.
Food serving speed was a bit slow. We visited on a Saturday but luckily it was not too busy.
The cockatoos on the trees were not many during our visit. According to the staff, they mostly come during low-traffic hours such as in the morning or after 3pm.

A great venue just as a cafe/restaurant but it comes into its own with High Tea. The sweet options are very good but it is the savory elements that set them apart. There are no mundane sandwiches, you get four Indian inspired (but not spicy) savory dishes - chicken, lamb, corn fritter and mushroom.
To go with the food they have a wide selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the different offerings.
