A busy little shop that offers super delicious food at very affordable prices! They have a $10 meal option with multiple dishes, one of them is kolomie — it was generously sized, loaded with toppings, and absolutely tasty. I also tried their bitter melon pork soup with rice, which was hearty and packed with authentic flavor. Service was very quick as well. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!

Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen, Ferntree Gully Review Update 19/11/2025 Today is the battle of Hokkien Mee — KL vs Singapore. I like the dark sauce, smooth KL style, while my prefers the light colour with a mixture of Singapore style. Both have some pork fat bits. This is a good value eatery, and we manage to have of each dish taken home for the evening. They are no losers in the battle. They both score well. ——— Review Update on 15/8/2025 The Lo Bak was passable in flavour, but visually underwhelming. Instead of the expected golden brown crispness, it arrived dark and dull — suggesting either over-frying or oil fatigue. A missed opportunity for contrast and crunch. Consistency should be the cornerstone of any kitchen, especially when serving culturally iconic dishes. Unfortunately, the KL Hokkien Mee here missed the mark. The gravy lacked the signature richness and cling—thin and watery, with limp sotong that seemed over-tenderised. The absence of gi yao ja (crispy pork lardon bits) was a notable omission. Singapore Hokkien Mee was also served. While not my preferred variant, my wife and her companion enjoyed it. Still, both dishes shared an indistinguishable texture, suggesting a one-size-fits-all cooking method—technically incorrect given their distinct culinary identities. The Claypot Seafood Noodles looked promising, with generous prawns and fish balls. However, the claypot arrived without the expected bubbling heat, diminishing the sensory experience. The restaurant was bustling at first, but emptied quickly after the initial wave—perhaps a reflection of crowd-driven popularity rather than enduring quality. I may be exacting, but when it comes to heritage dishes, precision matters. ————— Reviewed on 17/1/2025 Nestled away from the bustling and competitive Malaysian restaurant scene, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen in Ferntree Gully offers a delightful escape with its affordable prices and authentic flavours. This hidden gem manages to keep costs low without compromising on quality, making it a standout choice for Malaysian cuisine enthusiasts. My visit took place on a weekday afternoon, and the café was buzzing with the lively chatter of Malaysian and Singaporean patrons, easily identifiable by their accents. The setting is reminiscent of a traditional kopi tiam, with its clean and welcoming environment, small tables, plastic stools, and paper cups for water, creating a cozy and unpretentious dining experience. Despite the trend of some restaurants cutting down on serving fried noodles due to high labour costs, Jalan Alor proudly offers a wide array of Malaysian favourites. From the aromatic Chow Kuey Teow (CKT) and Hokkien Mee to the flavourful Mee Goreng, nasi lemak, curry, and laksa dishes, the menu is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia. The CKT, with its strong Wok Hei and generous sprinkling of dried pork bits, was a delight that could satisfy even the most discerning CKT critic. The Singapore Hokkien Mee, distinct from its KL counterpart which is fried with dark soy sauce, was equally impressive. Although I usually prefer KL Hokkien Mee, I found the Singapore version to be just as delicious. I suggest that a little extra gravy could improve the texture and enhance the flavour further. One of the most appealing aspects of Jalan Alor is its pricing. The dishes are more affordable compared to many competitors, making it well worth the trip to savour the authentic flavors without breaking the bank. In conclusion, Jalan Alor Malaysian Kitchen is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Malaysian cuisine in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this café promises a memorable dining experience that will leave you coming back for more.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was very disappointed with my experience. The food itself was decent, but I was shocked to be served my meal on a chipped plate. This is not only unprofessional but also a hygiene and safety concern. As customers, we expect basic standards to be met, and proper serving ware is one of them. Unfortunately, this completely ruined the dining experience for me. I hope the management takes this seriously and improves their quality control, because this is unacceptable for any establishment.

What a fantastic find! Jalan Alor in Ferntree Gully truly delivered an authentic Malaysian dining experience that did not disappoint my taste buds. The food was full of flavour, cooked to perfection, and incredibly authentic, just like what you’d find on the streets of Malaysia. Most meals are around $10, which is amazing value considering the quality and portion sizes. It’s a great spot if you’re after a delicious, satisfying meal that won’t break the bank. The place is always busy (a good sign!), and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I was extremely impressed with the quality, authenticity, and overall experience. If you love Malaysian cuisine or want to try something new, I 100% recommend checking this place out. A quick find, but one I’ll definitely be returning to!

We have ordered takeaway and eaten in at Jalan Alor so many times. The food is delicious and full of flavour and well priced. Great Malaysian food all round! The dishes we order constantly are consistent and taste wonderful every time. It is our regular eating place for takeaway.
